Bilbo’s Campervans Offer Quality, Safety and Peace of Mind

When you buy a new Volkswagen campervan, you may assume that because it’s the latest Euro 6.1 Volkswagen model that it complies with all the safety standards this prestigious marque is famous for.

It may well come as a surprise to you, that many convertors on a Volkswagen van do not have the essential quality and safety kite marks that prove the conversion complies with the latest up to date safety legislation.

Even more surprising is that many companies pre-register their vehicles before conversion in order to circumvent these regulations.

So, what do you need to look out for?

The following standards are proof that the campervan conversion meets the latest stringent legislation for quality and safety and you should look out for these accreditations when you are thinking of buying a campervan.

You’ll be pleased to know that Bilbo’s comply with all of these standards and so you will be safe in the knowledge that all Bilbo’s campervans have Quality, Safety and Peace of Mind built into each conversion.

Volkswagen Motorhome Qualification Scheme
Volkswagen Motorhome Qualification Scheme

To be awarded this qualification, motorhome and campervan converters now have to meet Volkswagen’s rigorous high build standards to gain their place on the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Motorhome Qualification Scheme.

This includes having their vehicle meet legal type approval standards allowing first registration as a campervan, not as a van.  They must also have gained approval from the National Caravan Council (NCC) who govern habitation standards and safety of your converted campervan. In addition, all converters must match the term of the Volkswagen base vehicle warranty too.

Bilbo’s have been awarded this status.

Vehicle Type Approval
Vehicle Type Approval

All New Bilbo campervans conform to the latest GB Type Approval.

This means that our conversions are built to British standards of vehicle safety, not to be confused with the lower grade Individual Type Approval (IVA).

Type approval can also be known as ‘Homologation’ which is a status granted to products that meet relevant technical performance, safety and regulatory standards applicable in the jurisdiction for which the approval applies.

Bilbo’s have been awarded this status.

BSI ISO 9001
ISO 9001

The ISO 9001 standard relates to a quality management system and is designed to help organisations ensure that they meet the needs of customers and stakeholders. The customer focused ISO 9001 is independently audited by the British Standards Institute (BSI) and regulates each stage of your purchase from taking and processing your order, carrying out your collection handover through to our award winning Aftercare service.

Bilbo’s have been awarded this status.

NCC Approval Scheme
NCC Approval

The NCC (National Caravan Council) Product Approval Scheme imposes a strict inspection regime on habitation safety requirements to provide consumer protection.

Every conversion that has been approved is licensed to carry an NCC Approved Badge and a certificate is also issued to the consumer detailing the specification of the model that was inspected and approved.

Inspections are conducted on-site at the manufacturers premises and depending upon specification, there may be 500 – 600 individual points checked on any one unit. The inspection process is complemented by unannounced surveillance checks at the factory to ensure that the products continue to comply with the relevant criteria. As such, the NCC badge provides a reliable benchmark by which product liability can be measured.

Bilbo’s - High quality, thoroughly tested Volkswagen Campervans

We think that all of these regulatory standards are vitally important when considering the purchase of a new campervan.

Why? Well, buying a campervan is an important personal investment, a long-time dream, a safe place for you and your family to enjoy together and a reliable vehicle for both driving and accommodating your requirements. Many companies may fit a crash tested seat, but has the way they fit it been collision tested? Is the base vehicle a Panel van designed to carry loads on the floor or is it a Passenger carrier designed to carry people onboard with a reinforced chassis, factory fitted windows and factory fitted seat belt mounting points? Has the panel cut out for the roof been reinforced to re-strengthen the vehicle? Is the gas in kitchen cupboard or a purpose built sealed, vented locker?

These are serious questions which must be considered , so although a van may look attractive and may be cheaper to purchase, you must make sure that they also comply with the industries stringent standards for your own peace of mind.

Bilbo’s quest is to continue to build and deliver high quality, thoroughly tested campervans which comply with the latest legislation.

So, when you are ready to buy your new Bilbo campervan, you can rest assured that you are buying from a fully approved converter, complying with all industry quality and safety standards, in particular the approval of the Volkswagen Qualification Scheme.
